December 18 / Asbury Park, NJ / Convention Hall
Notes: The second of two Springsteen Family Holiday Specials in Asbury Park, and the second-ever performance of the powerful new "My City of Ruins." As on night one, the Max Weinberg 7 and the Redheaded Women (Patti Scialfa, Soozie Tyrell, and Lisa Lowell) acted as the house band, joined as the night went on by Southside Johnny, Bobby Bandiera, and the entire E Street Band. The same main set as night one, with only minor differences in performance (e.g., no Jon Landau onstage; Marah joined in on "Santa Claus"). The big addition on this second night was a brief opening acoustic set, roughly an hour-and-a-half before the main show started at 9:10. This three-song soundcheck set had Bruce running through a couple of Hank Williams tunes and telling the crowd, "Welcome to the Asbury Opry!" For these bonus songs, he was joined here and there by the Redheaded Women, Southside on harp, Garry on bass, and Nils on piano.
Acoustic soundcheck set: Jambalaya (On the Bayou) / Hey, Good Lookin' / Mystery Train
Main set: See December 17

December 17 / Asbury Park, NJ / Convention Hall
Notes: The crowd must have been good for goodness' sake, because Bruce and fellow Jersey Shore musical alumni put on a heck of a show on Sunday night. You like the holiday classics? Maybe you've been waiting 25 years to hear "Kitty's Back" live again? Or you were in the mood for a new song? Okay, this one's worth a little detail, so we've got it all for you down below. Kudos to the Max Weinberg 7 who only rehearsed for two days but were incredibly tight. They were onstage for almost the whole show along with the newest girl group sensation, the Redheaded Women backup singers. That's Patti Scalfia, Soozie Tyrell, and Lisa Lowell. Joining the night's house band, at various points, were Southside Johnny, Bobby Bandiera, and the entire E Street Band. The crowd at Asbury Park's Convention Hall was blown away.
Setlist:
Jingle Bells, with horns, Danny Federici and Gary Tallent on tuba
For You, with Bruce on piano
Blue Christmas, with Bruce and Patti on vocals, Soozie on fiddle, Gary on standup bass, and Bobby Bandiera on guitar
Powerhouse The Max Weinberg 7 took over for a blues number
Run Run Rudolph, with Bruce and Jimmy Vivino (MW7 guitarist) on vocals
Luckytown, with horns
E Street Shuffle into Curtis Mayfield's Movin' On Up, with Danny
Kitty's Back, and "Who's that coming down the alley?" It's Clarence coming out onstage.
Rose, a new Patti song with Bruce backing her up
As Long as I Can Be with You, another Patti song, with Bruce and Bobby
This Time It's for Real, with Southside, Little Steven, and Bruce trading vocals
Until the Good Is Gone, a Steve song with Steve and Bruce on vocals
All I Needed Was You, with Southside, Steve, and Bruce again
Shine Silently, as Nils takes the stage and the spotlight with Bruce and the MW7 backing him up
Merry Christmas Baby, as Roy makes his first appearance of the night and the entire E Street Band is onstage
So Young and In Love, its Tracks-version performance debut
Roll of the Dice
Bobby Jean
Christmas, Baby Please Come Home, with Bruce, Patti and Soozie on vocals and, among others, Jon Landau on guitar
ENCORES
Bruce recognized all the charities involved with that night's show and then...
My City of Ruins, a new song dedicated to Kate Mellina of the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce. Bruce started the song on piano, then joined by the horns. "Come on, rise up" was the refrain.
I Don't Wanna Go Home, with Southside, Gary, Roy, Steve, and Nils
Rosalita (!), with the whole E Street Band and Bobby
Then everyone came up on stage - kids, Kate Mellina and her husband Dave Christopher, the Save Tillie leaders Bob Crane and Debbie Robinson, and Bruce's mom and aunts, dressed in Santa Claus costumes and throwing candy canes for the final number...
Santa Claus is Comin' to Town

November 3 / Asbury Park, NJ / The Stone Pony
Notes: Springsteen joined Joe Grushecky & the Houserockers at the "Light of Day" benefit for the Parkinson's Disease Foundation. Bruce's hour-and-a-half onstage included some Houserocker standards, covers, and three of Bruce's own.
Setlist: Never Be Enough Time/Homestead/Pumping Iron/Murder Inc./Talking To the King/Down the Road Apiece/Diddy Wah/Everything's Gonna Work Out Right/I Hear You Knockin'/Ramrod/Light Of Day//Twist and Shout/I Don't Wanna Go Home

October 21 / Middletown, NJ / HedgeRow Stables
Notes: An invitation-only benefit for Special People United to Ride (SPUR). Springsteen, Patti Scialfa, Max Weinberg and Jon Bon Jovi joined Bobby Bandiera's band for a set of classics that included "Havin' a Party," "Rockin' All Over the World," "Proud Mary," "You Really Got a Hold on Me," "Hungry Heart," "Mustang Sally," "Mystery Train," and an encore of "Twist and Shout."

October 14 / Colts Neck, NJ
Notes: Bruce's private birthday bash on his farm in Colts Neck. Springsteen and other friends jammed on oldies with house band the Gotham Playboys.

The 1999-2000 E Street Band tour came to an end on July 1, with the tenth of ten at Madison Square Garden. Springsteen took a moment before "Land of Hope and Dreams" to give thanks: to the crew, Jon Landau and Barbara Carr, the E Street Band, and the audiences around the world. The NYC audience joined in the thanks, with a massive, moving "E Street Band!" chant. Bruce also revisited the rededication of the E Street Band and their commitment to serve, saying "I hope we've done that well this year, and we'll continue to try to do so."

Bruce's very last words-- "We'll be seein' ya!"-- followed a heartfelt "Blood Brothers," which included a special new verse. Rather than the "I don't know why I made this call" verse of the recording, the new lyrics told the crowd exactly how he felt tonight:

"Now I'm out here on this road
Alone on this road tonight
[I] close my eyes and feel so many friends around me
In the early evening light
And the miles we have come
And the battles won and lost
Are just so many roads traveled
So many rivers crossed
And I ask God for the strength
And faith in one another
'Cause it's a good night for a ride
'Cross this river to the other side
My blood brothers."

July 1 / New York, NY / Madison Square Garden
Notes: Night ten, the last show of the tour, and the longest at three-and-a-half hours. Bruce and the band absolutely nailed the tour debut of "Lost in the Flood," an amazing performance and the song's first since Detroit, 9/1/78. Another tour premiere provided a fitting epilogue to the E Street reuinion: "Blood Brothers" included a brand new verse especially for the occasion. Also making it a special night were "The E Street Shuffle," "The Promise" and "Atlantic City," each played for the second time this stand. Early standard opener "My Love Will Not Let You Down" also made a welcome return, to bring it all full circle.
Setlist: Code of Silence/My Love Will Not Let You Down/Prove It All Night/Two Hearts/Atlantic City/Mansion on the Hill/The River/American Skin (41 Shots)/The Promised Land/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/The E Street Shuffle/Lost in the Flood/Born in the U.S.A./Backstreets/Light of Day
First Encore: The Promise/Ramrod/Bobby Jean/Born to Run
Second Encore: Further On Up the Road/Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams/Blood Brothers

June 29 / New York, NY / Madison Square Garden
Notes: Two words: "The Promise." No show with this song-- Bruce alone at the piano, playing it "for the afficianados"-- can be considered standard. But for the second-to-last show, night number nine was remarkable for the intense, rock-solid energy Bruce and the band brought to the stage rather than for the setlist. Tonight's filming surely had something to do with it. Also performed: "Don't Look Back," "This Hard Land," and "Growin' Up." "Light of Day" again includes "C.C. Rider" and "Jenny Take a Ride."
Setlist: Code of Silence/Don't Look Back/The Ties That Bind/Two Hearts/Darkness on the Edge of Town/Mansion on the Hill/My Hometown/American Skin (41 Shots)/The Promised Land/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/Another Thin Line/The Promise/Jungleland/Light of Day
First Encore: This Hard Land/Born to Run
Second Encore: Growin' Up/Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams

June 27 / New York, NY / Madison Square Garden
Notes: Night eight's Garden Variety selections include "Back in Your Arms," "Mary Queen of Arkansas," and "Blinded By the Light." Another partial Detroit Medley in "Light of Day," with "C.C. Rider" and "Jenny Take a Ride." "E Street Shuffle" is on the handwritten setlist but not played.
Setlist: Code of Silence/The Ties That Bind/Adam Raised a Cain/Two Hearts/Trapped/Factory/American Skin (41 Shots)/The Promised Land/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/Loose Ends/Back in Your Arms/Mary Queen of Arkansas/Backstreets/Light of Day
First Encore: Hungry Heart/Born to Run
Second Encore: Blinded By the Light/Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams

June 26 / New York, NY / Madison Square Garden
Notes: Night seven's Garden Variety selections: "For You," "Downbound Train," "She's the One," "Racing in the Street," and "Night." The show opens with "Another Thin Line" for the second time; "Tenth Avenue Freeze-out" includes "My Girl"; and we get a taste of the Detroit Medley with "C.C. Rider" and "Jenny Take a Ride" in the middle of "Light of Day."
Setlist: Another Thin Line/Prove It All Night/For You/Two Hearts/Downbound Train/Mansion on the Hill/American Skin (41 Shots)/The Promised Land/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/She's the One/Born in the U.S.A./Racing in the Street/Light of Day
First Encore: Further On Up the Road/Bobby Jean/Born to Run
Second Encore: Night/Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams

June 23 / New York, NY / Madison Square Garden
Notes: The second half of the Garden stand begins, with ultra-rarities "Does This Bus Stop," performed early in the set, and "Sandy" in the encores. Plus "Human Touch" and "Dead Man Walkin'." "Light of Day" includes "Boom Boom." No "Further On Up the Road" tonight, the first show of the stand without it.
Setlist: Code of Silence/The Ties That Bind/Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street/Two Hearts/Darkness on the Edge of Town/Point Blank/American Skin (41 Shots)/The Promised Land/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/Human Touch/Dead Man Walkin'/Meeting Across the River/Jungleland/Light of Day
First Encore: Hungry Heart/Born to Run
Second Encore: Fourth of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)/Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams

June 22 / New York, NY / Madison Square Garden
Notes: The first Garden show without "Code of Silence"-- but another new song took its place! The world premiere of "Another Thin Line," another song, like "Code," that was co-written with Joe Grushecky. And it don't stop there. Night five also brought the tour debut of "Secret Garden," plus choice rarities "Something in the Night," "Sherry Darling," and, oh yeah, "Incident on 57th Street." Hell of a night when we don't mention that until 3/4 of the way down, huh? "Incident" came as a real surprise, opening the second encore. Fiddler Soozie Tyrell guested again on two songs, "Youngstown" and "Tom Joad"; Abby Weinberg joined in on keyboards for "Ramrod."
Setlist: Another Thin Line/Don't Look Back/Prove It All Night/Two Hearts/Something in the Night/My Hometown/American Skin (41 Shots)/The Promised Land/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/Sherry Darling/Secret Garden/The Ghost of Tom Joad/Backstreets/Light of Day
First Encore: Further On Up the Road/Ramrod/Born to Run
Second Encore: Incident on 57th Street/Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams

June 20 / New York, NY / Madison Square Garden
Notes: "Saint in the City," "NYC Serenade," and "Growin' Up" in one night! Plus the rare "Candy's Room," and fiddler Soozie Tyrell guests on "The Ghost of Tom Joad."
Setlist: Code of Silence/Take 'Em As They Come/Prove It All Night/Two Hearts/Candy's Room/Independence Day/American Skin (41 Shots)/The Promised Land/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/It's Hard to Be a Saint in the City/The Ghost Of Tom Joad/New York City Serenade/Light of Day
First Encore: Further On Up the Road/Ramrod/Bobby Jean/Born to Run
Second Encore: Growin' Up/Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams

June 17 / New York, NY / Madison Square Garden
Notes: Night three brings a hell of a tour premiere: "The E Street Shuffle." Plus "Atlantic City," "Racing in the Street," "Spirit," and, again, all three new songs.
Setlist: Code of Silence/The Ties That Bind/Two Hearts/Rendezvous/Atlantic City/The River/American Skin (41 Shots)/The Promised Land/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/The E Street Shuffle/Born in the U.S.A./Racing in the Street/Light of Day
First Encore: Further On Up the Road/Ramrod/Spirit in the Night/Born to Run
Second Encore: Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams

June 15 / New York, NY / Madison Square Garden
Notes: Night two. All three new songs return, with Bruce shaking up the order to open with "Further On Up the Road." And later in the show, he followed up "American Skin" immediately with "Code of Silence"--how 'bout that for a one-two punch? Plus more B-set alternates like "Trapped," "No Surrender" (country), and "Stand on It."
Setlist: Further On Up the Road/The Promised Land/Two Hearts/Darlington County/Trapped/My Hometown/American Skin (41 Shots)/Code of Silence/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/No Surrender/Meeting Across the River/Jungleland/Light of Day
First Encore: Stand on It/Bobby Jean/Born to Run
Second Encore: This Hard Land/Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams

June 12 / New York, NY / Madison Square Garden
Notes: The final stand begins. And after all the fuss over "American Skin (41 Shots)," Springsteen opened the stand with a different new song--the world premiere of "Code of Silence." We're told it's a "big, screaming rocker"-- more on that as we hear it. "American Skin" had its first NYC airing, too, and Bruce let the song speak for itself with no spoken introduction. An amazing set also included "Be True," "Roll of the Dice," "Dancing in the Dark," and, for the second time ever, "Further On Up the Road."
Setlist: Code of Silence/Prove It All Night/Two Hearts/Darkness on the Edge of Town/Be True/Point Blank/American Skin (41 Shots)/The Promised Land/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/Roll of the Dice/Dancing in the Dark/Born in the U.S.A./Backstreets/Light of Day
First Encore: Further On Up the Road/Ramrod/Bobby Jean/Born to Run
Second Encore: Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams

June 4 / Atlanta, GA / Philips Arena
Notes: Unbelievable. After months of soundchecking, the first new songs make the set since the debut of "Land of Hope and Dreams" at the beginning of the tour. Not one but two world premieres: "Further On Up the Road" opens night two, and a jaw-dropping "American Skin" turns up just a little further into the show. And that's not all that made for a special set, radically different from the first night. Next stop, Madison Square Garden...
Setlist: Further On Up the Road/The Ties That Bind/Two Hearts/Darlington County/Trapped/Point Blank/American Skin/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/Loose Ends/No Surrender/Born in the U.S.A./Jungleland/Light of Day
First Encore: This Hard Land/Hungry Heart/Born to Run
Second Encore: Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams/Ramrod

June 3 / Atlanta, GA / Philips Arena
Notes: Night one in Atlanta brings "Be True" by request, "Human Touch," and "Dead Man Walkin'." In his "Tenth Avenue" vocal spotlight, Clarence makes a Gone With the Wind reference: "Frankly, Bruce, I don't give a damn!"
Setlist: Don't Look Back/Prove It All Night/Two Hearts/Darkness on the Edge of Town/The Promised Land/Mansion on the Hill/The River/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/Be True/Human Touch/The Ghost of Tom Joad/Dead Man Walkin'/Backstreets/Light of Day
First Encore: Ramrod/Bobby Jean/Born to Run
Second Encore: Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams

May 29 / Salt Lake City, UT / Delta Center
Notes: The tour debut of "It's Hard to Be a Saint in the City" and a rare "Candy's Room."
Setlist: Don't Look Back/Prove It All Night/Two Hearts/Darkness on the Edge of Town/The Promised Land/Mansion on the Hill/The River/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/Candy's Room/It's Hard to Be a Saint in the City/The Ghost of Tom Joad/Born in the U.S.A./Backstreets/Light of Day
First Encore: Bobby Jean/Born to Run
Second Encore: Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams/Ramrod

May 27 / Las Vegas, NV / MGM Grand Garden
Notes: For his first show in Vegas, Bruce took the stage wearing a silver-sequinned cape-- immediately confirming bets that this one would be a little different. The concert opened and closed with "Viva Las Vegas." Another Elvis classic debuted, "Can't Help Falling in Love," and the very rare "Be True," only played twice before on this tour. Other Crapsville specials: "Atlantic City," "Roll of the Dice," "Lucky Town."
Setlist: Viva Las Vegas/Prove It All Night/Two Hearts/Be True/Darlington County/Atlantic City/The River/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/Roll of the Dice/The Ghost of Tom Joad/Born in the U.S.A./Can't Help Falling in Love/Backstreets/Light of Day
First Encore: Lucky Town/Bobby Jean/Born to Run
Second Encore: Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams/Ramrod/Viva Las Vegas

May 22 / Anaheim, CA / Arrowhead Pond
Notes: The tour premieres of "Roll of the Dice" (Vegas, here we come!), and a cover of "Gloria." Rarities also include the full band acoustic "No Surrender" followed by "Racing in the Street," for a total of 11 changes from the night before. "Light of Day" includes "California Sun."
Setlist: Take 'Em as They Come/The Promised Land/Two Hearts/Darlington County/Rendezvous/Factory/Independence Day/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/Roll of the Dice/No Surrender/Racing in the Street/Light of Day
First Encore: Stand on It/Bobby Jean/Born to Run
Second Encore: Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams/Gloria/Ramrod

May 21 / Anaheim, CA / Arrowhead Pond
Notes: Two weeks off puts zero rust on the band, and the first Anaheim show brings "Don't Look Back" to open, "Human Touch" and "This Hard Land." And looking ahead, "Viva Las Vegas" was in the soundcheck...
Setlist: Don't Look Back/Prove It All Night/Two Hearts/Darkness on the Edge of Town/The Promised Land/Mansion on the Hill/Point Blank/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out Human Touch/The Ghost of Tom Joad/Born in the U.S.A./Backstreets/Light of Day
First Encore: This Hard Land/Born to Run
Second Encore: Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams/Ramrod

May 8 / Hartford, CT / Civic Center
Notes: "Roulette"-- how's that for a surprise opener? It's the song's tour premiere. Plus "Atlantic City," "Brilliant Disguise," "Because the Night," "Racing in the Street," "Spirit," and a cover of "Honky Tonk Women" worked into "Darlington County." By all accounts an amazing show, and the last for a couple of weeks as the band takes a well-deserved break.
Setlist: Roulette/Prove It All Night/Two Hearts/Darlington County (with Honky Tonk Women)/Atlantic City/My Hometown/Independence Day/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/Brilliant Disguise/Because the Night/The Ghost of Tom Joad/Racing in the Street/Light of Day
First Encore: Spirit in the Night/Born to Run
Second Encore: Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams/Ramrod

May 7 / Hartford, CT / Civic Center
Notes: Quite a setlist especially for night one of two: including "Don't Look Back" to open, "Human Touch," full-band country version of "No Surrender," and "Growin' Up" in the encores!
Setlist: Don't Look Back/The Ties that Bind/Two Hearts/Rendezvous/The Promised Land/Mansion on the Hill/Point Blank/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/Human Touch/No Surrender/Born in the U.S.A./Backstreets/Light of Day
First Encore: Ramrod/Bobby Jean/Born to Run
Second Encore: Growin' Up/Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Land of Hope and Dreams

May 4 / Toronto, ON / Air Canada Centre
Notes: First things first: "Incident" is back! Not to mention "Don't Look Back" to open and an acoustic "No Surrender." If night one was setlist A, this was setlist J. One guy in particular was clearly excited about it, jumping onstage for "an everlasting kiss" during "Born to Run."
Setlist: Don't Look Back/Prove It All Night/Two Hearts/Rendezvous/The Promised Land/Factory/Point Blank/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Streets/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/Incident on 57th Street/No Surrender (accoustic)/Jungleland/Light of Day
