| A book/DVD package touted on the cover as "The Ultimate Critical Review," from Classic Rock Legends. The 72-page book, with color photos and text by Mick Wall, is a career overview up through the Seeger Sessions project. The DVD, housed inside the hardbound book, intersperses live footage with talking heads. This is an independent production aimed at the casual fan, so keep your expectations low… but with video clips from Saturday Night Live, the Concert for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and more, we can't say there's not worthwhile stuff to be found here.
From the manufacturer description: "This penetrating critical analysis draws on rare footage of the Boss broadcasting live in performance, and compares and contrasts his incredible live shows with his hugely successful recording career. A team of leading music critics and working musicians revisits his recordings to discover what is behind his iconic status and explore his talent for expressing the struggles of working class life in musical genres as varied as folk ballads and rousing anthems."
From a Backstreets customer: "To your credit, you note that it's more for casual fans, so I knew not to expect too much. However, the DVD is much worse than I expected. The 'critics' don't have a clue, and their comments would be laughable if wasn't for how they ruin any chance of enjoying the video clips... That said, I was happy to have some video clips of live performances I hadn't seen, so I'm not upset about my purchase. However, you might want to change your description of this item..." Fair enough. Caveat emptor! |
