| The 2007 memoir by Sarfraz Manzoor and the inspiration for the 2019 film Blinded By the Light, in a motion-picture tie-in edition with a new Afterword.
The author was two years old when he emigrated from Pakistan to Britain in 1974. He spent his teenage years in a constant battle, trying to reconcile being both British and Muslim, trying to fit in at school and at home. But at age 16, when his best friend introduced him to the music of Bruce Springsteen, his life changed completely. From the moment he heard the harmonica and opening lines to "The River," Springsteen became Sarfarz's personal muse.
Both a tribute to Springsteen and a story of personal discovery, Greetings From Bury Park is a warm, irreverent, and funny memoir about how music transcends religion and race.
If you enjoyed the Blinded film (Manzoor also co-wrote the screenplay), we highly recommend you read its inspiration.
