(select at checkout):

Standard Delivery is U.S. Mail or UPS Ground in the U.S.; or Air Mail for International orders. Please allow 1-4 weeks for standard shipping. We always do our best to fulfill orders as quickly as possible, and there's a very good chance you'll receive yours sooner than that.... but we do ask that you allow up to four weeks for standard shipping.

Expedited Shipping is available to U.S. destinations. Customers requesting Overnight or 2-Day service should have delivery within, respectively, one or two business days from when we received your order. Expedited orders received after 2 p.m. Eastern will usually be processed the following business day.

ORDERING FOR THE HOLIDAYS?
For U.S. destinations, we can guarantee delivery before Christmas for all orders placed by December 10. Domestic orders placed December 11 or later may still arrive in time (well be doing our best to get everything sent out quickly), but after December 10 only those orders which request Expedited Shipping can be guaranteed on-time. We also recommend using Expedited Shipping if you need your items to arrive by an earlier date (for a holiday party, Hannukah, etc.). Expedited orders placed by 2 p.m. Eastern will ship on the same day.

For orders shipping outside of the U.S., unfortunately we arent able to guarantee delivery time (its in the hands of the postal service, which does slow down around this time of the year), but wed recommend ordering sooner rather than later, and well be working hard to get your package in the mail as quickly as we can!

In This Land is Your Land: Woody Guthrie and the Journey of an American Folksong, Backstreets associate editor Robert Santelli takes an in-depth look at Woody Guthrie's most famous composition, exploring the mythology and history surrounding the song that has been a touchstone for so many.

Bruce Springsteen first performed "This Land is Your Land" on The River tour after reading Joe Klein's Woody Guthrie: A Life, introducing it by citing its origin as a response to "God Bless America" and explaining that its intent was to explore the inequities of America's economic power structure. In an ironic foreshadowing of the misunderstanding and misappropriation of Bruce's "Born in the U.S.A.," the song has often been performed in abridged versions that de-emphasize its political content in favor of its poetic descriptions of the American landscape; Springsteen re-inserted one of several key verses in his live performances throughout 1980-81. Indeed, Guthrie himself worried that people would forget the "controversial" verses, and asked his son Arlo perform the complete version for him over and over again until he was satisfied that the budding musician had properly committed it to memory.

Santelli does a masterful job of placing "This Land is Your Land" in historical and sociological context, and readers will come away with a deeper understanding both of the song and of its brilliant, unforgettable composer.

Hardcover, 256 pages, illustrated with black & white photographs and a fold-out mini-poster of Woody and his "This Machine Kills Fascists" guitar
