Expedited Shipping is available to U.S. destinations. Customers requesting Overnight or 2-Day service should have delivery within, respectively, one or two business days from when we received your order. Expedited orders received after 2 p.m. Eastern will usually be processed the following business day.

ORDERING FOR THE HOLIDAYS?
For U.S. destinations, we can guarantee delivery before Christmas for all orders placed by December 10. Domestic orders placed December 11 or later may still arrive in time (well be doing our best to get everything sent out quickly), but after December 10 only those orders which request Expedited Shipping can be guaranteed on-time. We also recommend using Expedited Shipping if you need your items to arrive by an earlier date (for a holiday party, Hannukah, etc.). Expedited orders placed by 2 p.m. Eastern will ship on the same day.

For orders shipping outside of the U.S., unfortunately we arent able to guarantee delivery time (its in the hands of the postal service, which does slow down around this time of the year), but wed recommend ordering sooner rather than later, and well be working hard to get your package in the mail as quickly as we can!

By Azzan Yadin-Israel. A comprehensive scholarly study of the biblical and theological motifs in Bruce Springsteen's lyrics.

Reading Springsteen's songs as one would a poem, The Grace of God and the Grace of Man sheds new light on Springsteen's work. The book's first section examines the theological overtones of Springsteen's early albums, focusing on his critique of traditional religious institutions and the promise of this-worldly salvation through romantic love and the open road. This trajectory in Springsteen's writing reaches an exhilarating apex in Born to Run, only to be methodically dismantled in the subsequent Darkness on the Edge of Town.

The second section of the book examines the ways in which Springsteen reworks three traditional terms in his work after Darkness: sin, grace, and the struggle within. Drawing on songs from across Springsteen's later work, the book demonstrates that Springsteen consistently situates these terms in the lived struggle to overcome the forces that pull us away from our better selves. Sin is the surrender to these forces, and grace the blessings that come from overcoming them; both result from the struggle within.

The third and final section, "Springsteen's Midrash," examines songs that explicitly interpret biblical passages, including "Into the Fire," "Adam Raised a Cain," and the hauntingly beautiful "Jesus Was an Only Son." The Grace of God and the Grace of Man's close readings of Springsteen's songs provide a wealth of local insights as well as a new critical framework for the appreciation of this major American artist.

Azzan Yadin-Israel is professor of Jewish Studies and Classics at Rutgers University. He is the author of two monographs on early rabbinic biblical interpretation and dozens of articles.
